Guest hosts represent our first point of direct contact with our guests. It is up to our Guest Hosts to ensure that each guest is welcomed to the resort and they are provided any help they need to make the most of their holiday.
Start date: Mid November 2019
Below is a brief description of what you would be doing on a day to day basis. This is not a comprehensive list, but it is what you would generally be doing:
Preparing rooms for the guests arriving that day:
- Checking the cleaning has been completed to Niseko Central standards (by our cleaning contractor).
- Checking the bed configuration is as the guest has requested.
- Checking all facilities provided to the guest are present and correct.
- Checking the utilities within the accommodation operate as they should.
- Reporting any defects to the office.
- Taking any luggage that the guest has sent forward to their rooms.
Collecting each guest from the bus drop-off point (or similar transfer drop-off location) and transferring them to their accommodation.
Running the guest through the in-room check-in.
Answering any questions the guest may have about the resort.
Referring the guest to the Tour Desk staff for more information on specific guest services that the guest can book.
Performing other tasks that facilitate the running of the day, including (but not limited to):
- Collecting the order of lift passes.
- Clearing snow from vehicles.
- Taking guests around resort as required.
- Various office duties, including replying to guest’s emails and taking phone calls where necessary.
Manning the Ski Valet when cover is required.
Being the Meet and Greet when cover is required.
- Being the first point of contact at the Welcome Center (bus drop-off point).
- Radioing in arrivals to be collected and checked in.
- Liaising with bus companies to enquire about late guests or guests with unknown arrival times.
Completing some work as Room Inspectors when cover is required.
- ¥1,300 - ¥1,400 per hour (based on 2018/19 season rates, subject to change).
- 25% overtime rate for hours worked above prescribed working hours
- 25% late night work rate for work between 10pm and 5am.
- Beginning of November 2019 to end of March 2020. Exact dates to be announced closer to the season.
- We start our staff with training to give you all you need to know about working for Niseko Central.
- Guaranteed work until end of contract, with the potential to extend pending work availability.
- Generally 5 days per week, around 40 hours per week.
- This is likely to be higher during peak season (including some weeks where you may be required to work 6 days) and a little quieter during the start and ends of the season.
- Each of our accommodations is subsidised to bring you housing at an affordable price.
- Singles, twin shares (doubles for couples), to hexa shares in a range of locations to suit a variety of budgets.
- Your own Free Grand Hirafu season lift pass is offered.
- Most companies will give their staff access to shared Grand Hirafu passes; these are usually kept at work so it may stop you getting first lifts on powder days. Shared passes also cannot be upgraded to All Mountain passes (unless everyone sharing the pass agrees to it). Working for Niseko Central means your pass can live in your riding jacket and gives you the opportunity to pay the difference to upgrade to an All Mountain pass.
- For those of you who do not require a lift pass you will be offered instead a payment of ¥20,000.
- Receive your pay every 2 weeks.
- Most local employers pay monthly which can leave you eating into your savings at the start of the season.
Cost Price on Niseko Central -delivered Services
- Please see our website for more details on what we book, but this could include things like snowmobiling, back country tours, transfers and car rental.

Advice from former staff
We have put some information together from previous staff to try and give you a flavour of what it's like here and to give you a little help and advice on a season with Niseko Central in Niseko. Advice from Tom B and Tara (two of our Guest Hosts) are shown below.
Tom B: “Snow, snow and more snow! “
Tara: “A nice and relaxed town where a friendly face is often seen either walking around town or up on the hill. Expect riding on the mountain to be the majority of your time, where in a small town, there isn’t much to do besides eating or onsen chilling.”
Tom B: “Bring all your gear with you as the shops are pretty expensive, give up on real cheese and practice your chopstick skills!”
Tara: “Niseko? Apply early and be prepared, or show up early in the season as there appears to be many jobs. Don’t expect to work for the mountain (lifties and what not), experience in customer service an asset, little to no Japanese required.”
Tom B: “The variety of tasks made everyday different.”
Tara: “I loved the staff and my fellow colleagues. They were the people I lived, worked, partied and rode the mountain with the majority of the time. The hours were great for riding just about every day. Good mixtures of first tracks and last chair depending on the shift. The job was also quite fun, getting to meet guests right off the bus on their arrival to Niseko for the first time and letting them know a bunch of great stuff to do around town!”
Tom B: “Usually pretty busy and with lots of customer interaction, independence and driving.”
Tara: “I was a Guest Host, therefore my main duties were greeting and giving guests a good orientation of town according to their needs. First and foremost what kind of services they had available through NC, but also some good spots on the mountain and in town that were considered ‘not to miss’! But it’s a real team environment, so some days you help out with other roles.”
Tom B: “Getting to meet new people every day and being given a fair amount of responsibility.”
Tara: “I would have to say the variability of my daily tasks, the social aspect of chatting with guests, and lastly the hours were ideal for lots of riding on the mountain (rarely missed a pow day!)”
Tom B: “Some of the customers could be pretty demanding and around Chinese New Year it got really busy.”
Tara: “Hmmm…. Sometimes the guests can be a bit demanding, but they are on vacation so I don’t blame 'em.”
Tom B: “Get a powder board, low-light goggle lenses for night-skiing and make sure you get on the mountain as much as possible!”
Tara: “Learn the town well at the beginning of the season (find out places you like to eat/just get oriented with where things are/hours everything is open).”
