A New Chapter for Yukoro Onsen: Niseko’s Beloved Hot Spring Reopens

October 21, 2025

A true Niseko treasure and an essential part of the town’s story, Yukoro Onsen has long been connected to the local life. The area’s development, both before and after the first chairlifts opened in the 1960s, grew around this very spot, now one of Hirafu’s most central and convenient locations. Just a short stroll from many of our Niseko Central accommodations, it’s the perfect place to unwind after a day on the slopes or exploring the village.

The Stunning New Sight

The reimagined Yukoro Onsen beautifully reflects Niseko’s heritage and natural landscape. Its new design blends traditional Japanese architecture with modern minimalism, creating a calm, timeless atmosphere. Built from local stone and wood, every detail feels authentic to Hokkaido.

Sustainability is at the heart of the rebuild. Locally sourced stone has been left unpolished to preserve its raw texture and honour the memory of the land, while minimising material use and long-term maintenance. This commitment extends to eco-friendly amenities and energy-efficient systems designed to protect the surrounding environment for generations to come.

Drawn from the Earth’s Core

Hot springs have long been part of Japan’s identity, a natural gift shaped by the country’s volcanic landscape. At Yukoro Onsen, mineral-rich water rises from deep underground, filtered through layers of volcanic rock to create an exceptionally pure sodium bicarbonate chloride spring.

This rare composition, enhanced by micro-algae that thrive in the geothermal environment, creates a self-sustaining natural cycle. The result is water known for its soothing and restorative qualities - helping to ease inflammation, support cell regeneration, and leave the skin feeling soft and rejuvenated. It’s relaxation in its most natural form.

Facilities to Relax and Recharge

In true Japanese tradition, Yukoro Onsen is divided into separate areas for men and women, each thoughtfully designed for comfort and calm. Spacious changing rooms and shower areas create an easy, unhurried flow that encourages relaxation from the moment you step inside.

The open-air bath on the second floor offers breathtaking views of Mount Yotei, an unforgettable backdrop as you soak beneath the sky. Inside, the warm indoor bath enhances the body’s natural healing processes with gentle far-infrared rays, while the cedar sauna invites deep rejuvenation, promoting circulation and inner balance.

After bathing, guests can unwind in the peaceful lounge - a serene space to rest, rehydrate, and reawaken after the onsen’s restorative touch.
