Japan is preparing to lift its current COVID-19 border control measures earlier than planned, on Saturday 29 April, just in time for the Golden Week holidays.

Initially, the government had planned to end the border measures on May 8, coinciding with the reclassification of COVID-19 as a common infectious disease, similar to seasonal influenza. However, recent developments have confirmed that the measures will be lifted a week earlier, just in time for the anticipated surge of travellers during the Golden Week holidays.

Currently, all entrants are required to present certification of at least three COVID-19 vaccination doses or a negative coronavirus test taken within 72 hours of departure. Starting from April 29th, these requirements will no longer be necessary.

This decision marks a significant step towards the resumption of full international travel and the revitalisation of the Japan tourism industry.

We would like to wish all of our guests a safe and enjoyable journey travelling to or from Japan. We hope that the relaxing of border control measures will ultimately result in a stress-free start or end to your holiday.
