Niseko is a fantastic destination for a family ski holiday with kids, with plenty of soft powder snow, lots of green runs to explore and plenty of accommodation and services catering for families with children. That being said, planning and executing a family ski holiday can be daunting if you haven't done it before.

The good news is, having a good time on your winter holiday with your family doesn't need to be stressful with a good plan and the right tips to make it all happen smoothly. Keep these tips in mind when planning your winter trip to Niseko for a fun, family holiday everyone can enjoy.

It'll be big smiles on little faces with the right holiday plan.

Location, Location, Location

Getting the kids, and yourself, out the door and onto the mountain each morning needn't be a challenge with the right location for your stay. The closer your accommodation is to the ski lifts, or the ski shuttle bus stop, the more seamless the whole process will be.

Getting your child to walk long distances in ski boots while trying to carry ski gear certainly doesn't get your family off to a happy start to the day.

The Right Gear

Nothing ends an otherwise great day on the slopes than a child being cold. Hire, borrow or buy the best gear you can. When your kids are comfy and warm, they’ll be happy, allowing the whole family to focus on enjoying the time on the mountain skiing and making holiday memories.

Keep in mind all-in-one suits for the little ones may seem a good idea however they can make it more tricky for bathroom breaks.

Eating in, Sometimes

There's something about coming together as a family at dinner time, even when on holiday, that keeps everything like a well-oiled machine. While eating out at some of Niseko's local restaurants is a must-do during your stay, self-catering during some of your holiday is a great way to keep flexibility around meal times and bed times. It also allows your family to buy local produce which is always a fun and educational experience for children.

Travelling with other families or friends? Rotate the cooking duties so that you can take some nights off from cooking. And why not start your holiday on the right foot food-wise with one of our tasty and convenient Welcome Food Packs, waiting in your room upon your arrival!

Have your kids learn from the pros so that you can all get the most out your holiday.

Ski School

Take the stress out of getting your kids to feel confident on the slopes by leaving it to the professionals. Your children may not like the idea at first first but will soon realise that skiing is fun and and there are new friendships to be made.

Let us help you find the right programs to suit you and your family with Group Ski & Board Lessons.

Little Rewards

Keep your sanity by offering your children a reward or special treat after the holiday if they do their fair share of helping out during the trip. Have them hang their helmet, goggles and gloves up to dry each night to save you from rushing around trying to find gear in the morning.

Child Minding

On those days when the kids need a break from skiing, or when you need a break yourself to head out and explore Niseko's nightlife, then book a babysitter! Your babysitter will come prepared with activities to keep your child entertained or take them outside to play in the snow when the weather permits.
